Tony's favorite quote is "there is no limit to what a person can do or where they can go, if they don't mind who gets the credit." Whether it is working on the largest wastewater treatment plant in the world – and the largest in Antarctica – or relocating his family to a new city and finding a pick-up hockey team, he believes the "no-limit" approach. It is all about the team. "As President and COO, it's my mission to make decisions aligned with our vision, and to connect and empower our staff to deliver on our four differentiators of providing legendary client experiences, unmatched employee experiences, to innovate and differentiate, and to remain private." Tony's equally passionate about the importance of mentoring. He gives this advice to an upcoming engineer: "While it's important to be an expert in your field, always maintain a broad perspective and get as much exposure to other areas as you can. Don't limit yourself."

As Managing Director of CDM Smith in Australia, Stuart works with our team to provide innovative and lasting integrated solutions in water, environment, energy and facilities to public and private clients.

As a Principal Hydrogeologist, Stuart has more than 30 years of experience in groundwater investigations, aquifer-scale impact assessments and regulatory liaison. Stuart's strong background in the development of water planning strategies for industry and government has allowed him to work on projects that include aquifer-scale assessment of sustainable yield, allocation planning and bringing together technical studies and policy development for many clients.

From his competitive nature playing tennis and soccer, Thierry knew that his career would involve keeping score. An advocate of the power of analytics, Thierry knows that behind all of the numbers and financial data are people – the people who serve our clients with excellence and who make CDM Smith such a great place work. He believes that having a forward-thinking mentality drives better business decisions and providing people with the latest technologies to predict reliable forecasting will enable the firm to look to the future and adapt quickly with emerging trends. “The finance profession can seem very removed from the people side of the business, but I believe it’s through smart, analytics-driven decision making that we can provide the very best experience for our clients and employees.”

Brian Farrelly has over 30 years of engineering and construction management experience for both municipal and private sector clients. His experience spans across water and wastewater treatment and combined sewer overflow plant design, construction, and operation, sanitary sewer main design and construction, municipal drinking water supply well installation, landfill construction and closure, airport construction, and remediation of TCE and PCB-contaminated soils. He is currently serving as the Program Manager on City of Newark’s $125 million lead service replacement project and is managing 14 different lead service replacement contracts and coordinates the work throughout the city. 

Steve Ley has recently joined CDM Smith’s Environment team as National Operations Manager.

Steve is Principal Environmental Scientist with over 18 years’ of experience working across market sectors in particular in the oil and gas sector undertaking a range of environmental services. He has a broad background in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Management having worked in various international geographies including Australia, United Kingdom, China and Russia. He also has extensive experience in project management, project directing, client relationship development and in operational leadership.

Steve will be performing a variety of roles across the business to support our growth, delivery and development of our people. As Regional Manager WA he will be focused on bringing together our potential for growth and creating a work environment for long term sustainability. As National Operation Manager (Environment) he will focus on ensuring our teams are undertaking work in an appropriate, safe, quality driven and cost- effective manner that aligns the operation to the CDM Smith 2020 Plan. 

Julia's passion for marketing and communications began when she realized the power of words. When she realized the impact, reach and connections that a brand can achieve by knowing who they are and how to capture what they value. This passion compelled her to change from an engineering major and join the world of marketing and communications. Now, as Chief Marketing Officer, she has the opportunity to cultivate the CDM Smith brand - which she holds close and believes is uniquely special. "In the fast-pace world we live in today and the multiple channels available to connect with each other, our clients and potential clients, there is a short window to tell our story and make it resonate. That's why my job is both challenging and rewarding. I love sharing the CDM Smith story whenever I have the opportunity to attend conferences, client meetings or visiting our offices."

Bill Cesanek is a CDM Smith vice president specializing in sustainable infrastructure planning, smart city utility technology, and geographic information systems. His experience extends across many sectors, including water resources, infrastructure, and environmental planning and permitting, water reliability, and web development. A relentless champion for water in the planning community, Bill is the current Chair of the Water Task Force of the American Planning Association, where he's played a crucial role in establishing the importance of water as a central organizing element in healthy urban environments. With a steady focus on driving innovation, Bill has also developed a number of complex web applications, including an Early Warning System addressing surface water pollution for the Philadelphia Water Department.  

Paul has built a strong reputation for delivering technically sound and defensible hydrogeological projects for the natural resources, mining and energy sectors. With many years of project involvement throughout Australia, New Zealand, South America and Asia, Paul has developed specialist experience in the areas of regional-scale hydrogeological characterisation, groundwater and surface water interaction, groundwater dependent ecosystems, large-scale water supply development and management, mine water management, assessment of water-related environmental effects associated with mining and energy projects, groundwater modelling and risk assessment. Paul has also been responsible for the preparation of natural resource management guidance documents for jurisdictional agencies in relation to groundwater dependent ecosystems and mining.

Roget is an Associate Environmental Scientist for CDM Smith.He has over 15 years post-graduate experience in environmental approvals, auditing, training, and general consulting on environmental management projects for a variety of industries including mining, remote village and offshore accommodation management, food and catering, maritime and Common User Facilities, chemical manufacturing, oil and gas, and fuel transport, bunkering and handling.

He has provided professional environmental management advice and services to a number of international companies including RioTinto, Chevron, Woodside, Newcrest Mining, British Gas, Canada Superior, BP, Atlantic LNG, Chevron, Talisman Energy and BHP Petroleum.

Roget has considerable site experience in Christmas Island, Henderson, Kwinana, the Pilbara, Goldfields and Barrow Island in Western Australia, and other sites nationwide.

Scott is a Senior Environmental Planner with experience in environmental impact assessments, coordinating development approvals and conducting environmental monitoring throughout Australia. Scott has experience with both government and private industry and has applied his knowledge to formulate successful development outcomes for proponents in the industrial, transport, utility, local government and resource industries.

Scott has been responsible for coordinating numerous strategic land use assessments, master plans, development applications and development plans for a variety of uses. Scott has been involved in multiple strategic planning and research projects where he has used his environmental, legislative and land use knowledge to formulate advice for a wide array of government and private industry clients.

Scott has completed water, soil and ecological sampling for various projects and is proficient with sampling guideline and handling requirements. Scott has also analysed sampling results and co-authored soil and water related standalone reports and large Environmental Impact Statement chapters. Scott also has experience with the development of Environmental Management Systems and site-specific environmental management plans.

Sonia is an environmental scientist with more than 30 years of experience in environmental impact assessment and management, asset closure planning and stakeholder engagement for mining, energy, infrastructure and industrial projects.   She has worked on projects across 13 countries in Asia, Africa and the Pacific region.

Sonia has experience that traverses the entire project cycle from exploration and resource development, feasibility and design (including approvals), to construction, operations, closure and site relinquishment.  With strong experience in acting on behalf of proponents, she focuses on effective management of environmental and social risks both of and to the project, while ensuring an appropriate level of effort on baseline studies, stakeholder engagement, impact assessment, rehabilitation and closure planning, and procurement of workable approvals.  Sonia enjoys working within cross-sectoral teams focused on providing practical solutions for our clients’ challenges.
