Scope Of Work
For the $50.5 million Alameda Freight Corridor project, Balfour Beatty Infrastructure was the design-build contractor responsible for the relocation of an existing freight corridor into a 30 foot deep trench moving from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to the BNSF and UPRR hubs in Los Angeles.
The scope included construction and surfacing of 330,000 track feet (62.5 miles) of new line on wood and concrete ties, removal of 200,000 track feet (37.88 miles) of existing track, installation of 108 new switches (10s, 14s, and 20s) on wood and concrete ties, five new crossing diamonds, 15 new road crossings and rehabilitation of 32,000 track feet (6.06 miles) of existing track. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure worked closely with the owners and railroads to ensure a safe and proper production schedule. All of the work was performed adjacent to an active rail line.

Following the completion of the corridor relocation project, Balfour Beatty Infrastructure entered into two successive contracts to provide signal and crossings maintenance of the 20-mile Alameda Corridor.
