Scope Of Work
An important part of the I-95 artery between New York City and Boston, the Bridgeport Corridor required upgrading to improve traffic flow and safety. The Connecticut Department of Transportation launched a major program to modify the I-95 roadway cross section and realign other sections of the road. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. contracted to perform work on the "Orange" portion of the reconstruction program, a $105.9 million project.
The "Orange" project involved reconstructing about five lane miles, five exit/entrance ramps and several local roads. Several bridges were built over local roads and one was constructed over the Metro-North Railroad across electrified railway lines.
The contract called for staged construction methods as a means to keep traffic flowing while each bridge structure was being replaced, which Balfour Beatty Infrastructure successfully accomplished.
