Hand and Eye Supply

Project Information

Project Location:
OR
Status:
Completed
Structure Type:
Retail Store

Scope Of Work

For Hand-Eye Supply’s second storefront in the Portland area, ecoREAL worked with Buzz Gorder of Gorder Design to create a dynamic and attractive retail space and “curiosity club” within a previously dilapitated building in Portland’s SW neighborhood. This project was funded in part by a PDC DOS grant that helps local small businesses grow as well as an Energy Trust Incentive from the state. In addition to Gorder Design, we also collaborated with a team of lighting experts and engineers in order to revitalize the aging building where the store is located.

This project presented our team with many challenges, aside from the aging structure of the building, which needed multiple interventions to meet code requirements, the lighting was very poor inside the space and the building tended to run very hot. These challenges provided us with the opportunity to utilize creative strategies for the lighting in the space as well as an energy efficient HVAC system to keep the temperture of the space down. These design descisions played an important role in the project receiving the Energy Trust Incentives.
