Cuscowilla on  Oconee is a 660-acre community with 225 homes, clubhouse, restaurant and an award-winning Coore & Crenshaw golf course, currently ranked in the top twenty modern golf courses in the country by Golfweek.

Fortis designed, permitted, financed and constructed a 1.0 MGD wasterwater treatment plant on a site located within the Cuscowilla gates. Fortis was able to utilize a site within Cuscowilla that had been previously set aside by the developer for a wastewater plant. However, the Cuscowilla development team did not have experience with wasterwater utilities.

The result was a partnership between Fortis and Cuscowilla that provided wastewater capacity for Cuscowilla, a site for the plant, a golf course and natural areas for treated reused water distribution, and a collection system for most of Cuscowilla into both previously developed subdivisions, as well as to undeveloped pods.

Cuscowilla was able to increase more valuable locations. By providing guaranties of capacity takedowns and resources. Cuscowilla was able to achieve wastewater service at a much lower cost in a full turnkey solution with much less exposure to their balance sheet. They were, effectively, completely removed from the wastewater development process.

Fortis built substantial excess capacity in the plant and expanded the collection system outside of the gates of Cuscowilla, providing wastewater service to the surrounding businesses and communities for most of northern Putnam . This is a prime example of Fortis' ability to provide creative solutions for the needs of multiple parties.
