Scope Of Work
Day & Zimmermann provided supervision, craft labor, and construction services to install a United Conveyor-supplied Submerged Flight Conveyor (SFC) system and Dry Flight Conveyors (DFC) at MidAmerican’s Neal Energy Center Unit 3 during the spring 2018 outage. After the dry ash conversion project began, MidAmerican tasked D&Z with completing repairs on Unit 3’s fly ash silo fluidization system.
Work scopes for both projects included the following.

Removed all electrical associated with the bottom ash system.
Installed SFC, incline, transition hopper, and seal trough with all associated water and pyrite piping and pumps.
Installed new electrical systems and controls, including the addition of a new motor control center, transformers, and control panel.
Installed DFC and supports under the economizer hoppers and transfer conveyor to SFC chute.
Erected new ash bunker enclosure complete with roofing, siding and doors.
Self-performed all civil, mechanical, and structural scopes, including concrete foundations, insulation, painting, piping interferences, and lead paint abatement.
Detailed, fabricated, and installed new structural steel and modifications to existing vertical supports and platforms
Removed and replaced the existing stone tray assemblies in the ash silo.
Cleaned ash from the air injection piping.
Removed and replaced all check and isolation valve assemblies in the room below the silo.
