Our Story
I grew up in Portland, Oregon. My childhood revolved around helping my father work on houses. He owned rentals and did all the work on them himself. From small repairs to full remodels, he could do it all, and he taught me by having me work alongside him. It was a solid, old-fashioned education in the trades, and I’ve used this knowledge ever since. By the time I was in high school I had done drywall, framing, and electrical work. When I was 16, my dad’s buddy, a general contractor, hired me as a summer hand to do framing with his crew. It was my first opportunity to measure my skills against others’ and I was proud to get good feedback from the seasoned crew.
As an adult, I tried out another field, working as a mover for North American Van Lines, but it wasn’t meant to be my life work. When my wife and I moved to San Diego, I found a job as an apprentice electrician. That suited me perfectly and, when they found I was a natural at it, they sent me to school. I took night courses at a trade school for electricians run by the Association of Builders and Contractors. Still an apprentice, I was promoted to lead man on several projects.
My family had moved to Sonoma County, and after working in San Diego for several years, my wife and I came up here to be near family as we started our own family. I became certified as a journeyman electrician and worked for a well-regarded electrical company for eight years. They did, and still do, very high caliber work in hospitals and other commercial settings. This work gave me an excellent grounding in safety protocols and company structure. Safeguards are crucial everywhere, and nowhere more so than in hospitals while working on lifesaving systems.
I always had the drive to build my own company. In 2011, I got my contractor’s license, and am now the proud owner of Aero Electric.
I’m a member of WECA, Western Electrical Contractors Association, and am always refreshing my skills and learning new ones through continuing education courses they offer. You can never know it all and I enjoy learning new things every day.
I love troubleshooting problems and figuring out effective solutions. I never let anything defeat me.
In my spare time, I’m a private pilot and member of EAA, Experimental Aircraft Association. My wife, Kristy, and I live in Santa Rosa with our young daughter Madelyn. When she’s not busy with Madelyn, Kristy uses her considerable financial and administrative skills to keep Aero Electric running smoothly.
