Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghin and Rob Marley.

Meghin and Rob, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We are a small full service electrical contracting business based out of southern New Hampshire, but licensed and servicing New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine. Rob is the Master Electrician and I am his wife, Meghin and we run the business together, him in the field and me in the office ?? We do all kinds of electrical work from changing light bulbs to commercial service and lighting, LED retrofits, to industrial construction and controls. Rob started doing electrical at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH from which we both graduated, then went on to get an associates in industrial electrical at Laconia Tech. My background is in horticulture I have a BS from UNH and I have a NH teaching license in biology. In the beginning Rob worked for several years for other contractors including two project manager positions, one in northern California while I was doing grad work at UC Davis and one in the Boston area for a local union shop. We always dreamed of running our own business and did so part time for many years, but it took the untimely passing of Rob’s mother Marianne in 2010 to push us to jump into running our business full time. Marley Light & Power LLC was officially established in 2008.

We work for all different types of customers including residential, local and regional business owners, and national brands. We do all kinds of electrical work. Our continued work flow and success is directly related to our customer service, doing quality work, being dependable, and responsive. Some of what we have been doing for the last few years is related to LED lighting, whether it be retrofitting existing lighting or installing new, business owners and homeowners alike are installing LED lights by the thousands.

Rob ran the business for a couple of years by himself and then our friend Marc a licensed journeyman electrician joined our team. I left my teaching job at Timberlane High School in 2014 to run the office full time. We now have a small efficient crew of 8 which allows us to service a decent amount of customers each year. Our business has been growing between 20 and 30% every year and we are hoping to keep growing and servicing our customers as best we can.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road, although as I said Rob’s experience and good reputation has made it easy for us to grow in what was a really bad economy when we first started out. We work all the time weekdays, weekends, while we’re on vacation. Owning your own business is not something you can just put down, it is constant. We also have 3 kids under the age of 9 as well so they keep us rather busy and can make it hard to juggle with the long work weeks. Trying to do it all I guess has been a struggle.

So Marley Light & Power LLC was established in 2008, we employ several licensed journeyman electricians, electrical apprentices, and 2 office personnel. We do full service electrical contracting which includes but is not limited to new house construction, electrical maintenance for homes and businesses, kitchen and bathroom remodels, additions, wiring of all types of equipment for business and industrial use, LED lighting retrofits, parking pole lights, sign service, retail store lighting maintenance, generator install and maintenance.

What sets us apart from other companies is our dedication to our customers, our competitive pricing, our reliability and responsiveness. Rob has more than 20 years of experience and we always produce top quality work. We can beat out larger companies because we show up when we say we will and we stand behind our work.

Some of our specializations include LED lighting which is great because not only are you reducing wattage and becoming more energy efficient, but there are fantastic rebates available to both businesses and home owners that make these projects all the more desirable. We have retrofitted more than 50 stores and gas stations in the last 2 years to energy efficient LED lighting. Led lighting is also our most requested and installed lighting among our residential customers as well.

Rob also has extensive background in industrial controls which sets him apart from your average electrical shop, we build and maintain various industrial controls, install and maintain energy management systems for some large commercial corporations in the area.

Most importantly we are and employ competent, reliable individuals who work really hard. Our clients are constantly complementing our crew’s work ethics and it has helped us to build a larger clientele over the years.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Boston is a productive city, an innovative city, it’s top notch in health care, and it’s great for entertainment. Much of our work is not of the city, but we do service some retail locations downtown. Being NH natives both of us, Boston is a symbol of our area and we obviously love Boston sports teams.

Traffic and parking aren’t great, but we manage when we come into the city.
