Scope Of Work
At the University of North Texas (UNT) Discovery Park campus, Sundt constructed a $12.6 million, 26,250-square-foot addition onto the existing main building for the Biomedical Engineering Department. Before this project, the department had been confined to a small amount of office space. Now, however, the program’s new, state-of-the-art facility provides students and faculty with two large research labs, three teaching labs and three classrooms, one of which is a tiered auditorium that seats up to 175 students.
Working on an occupied campus within a 12-month timeline, it was crucial for all parties to be on the same page. The Sundt project team went to great lengths to mitigate and communicate disruptions, which included giving notice of all noise and outage events at least two weeks in advance. The team also worked to create as little disruption as possible to student schedules by navigating the academic calendar. Also, Sundt’s drone work—including 4K video and 360-degree photos—allowed the owner to stay abreast of the building’s progress and share the progress on their website with students and faculty.
