Scope Of Work
The I-10 widening broke ground at the end of May 2022 and is a key piece of the puzzle for recent infrastructure changes in the city of El Paso. The need for this widening is due to a bottleneck in traffic that reaches the New Mexico/Texas state line. The widening will improve the traffic flow from the state line all the way through downtown El Paso.
Expected to take three years, the reconstruction is a $174 million build for Sundt and highlights Sundt’s self-perform concrete capability. The project team will widen 7.5 miles of the I-10 from Antonio Street to Mesa Street, improving capacity, operation, circulation, and safety. Self-perform concrete pavement will replace the existing asphalt, and the team will add additional inside lanes in each direction, auxiliary lanes between ramps, a new overpass, replace 25 mainline bridges, and add lighting and an intelligent traffic system (ITS).
