Scope Of Work

Project overview: VEC worked directly for an architectural firm to provide vibration, magnetic field, and acoustic noise testing and consulting services for the creation of a new laser lab at the University of California San Diego

Phase 1: Initial Site Surveys and Analysis of Existing Conditions

Key tasks

• Conduct site survey measuring existing vibration, AC EMI, DC EMI, and acoustics in four rooms throughout the lab space
• Compare results to OEM generated specifications

Deliverables

• Complete Initial Site Survey for each tool (report will be provided within 1 week of survey completion)

Duration

• 1-2 days plus report preparation

Phase 2: Mitigation Recommendations and Design Consulting

Key tasks

• Provide mitigation recommendations based on the results of the Site Survey
• Provide guidance on other environmental considerations with the site design and tool layout
• Be available for design meetings as needed

Deliverables

• Communicate recommendations for design, site suitability, and remediation recommendations

Duration

• As needed over the course of Schematic Design Review phase

Phase 3: Acoustic Noise Modeling

Key tasks

• Model the acoustic noise at the laser location based on sources in the laboratory space
• Predict the acoustic noise levels of acoustic noise sources in the laboratory space
• Model the Sound Transmission Loss for the wall based on drawing details
• Model the Radiant and Discharge Noise for the planned air handler system

Deliverables

• 3D model based on BIM360 drawings of the acoustic noise on the laser tables

Duration

• 5 days of design and report creation

Phase 4: Site Validation and Final Survey

Key tasks

• Conduct site survey at Laser System #1 and Future Laser System #2
• Validate that site is within system specifications

Deliverables

• Complete Final Site Survey for both Laser Systems (report will be provided within 1 week of completion)

Duration

• 1-2 days plus report preparation
