Scope Of Work
NASA’s Johnson Space Center is home to the Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Space Operations Contract (ESOC). As a major subcontractor to United Technologies Collins Aerospace in support of NASA, KBR members of the ESOC team help to provide the International Space Station (ISS) with an integrated EVA program.
KBR is proud to deliver the following capabilities and services: operational support, sustainment engineering, hardware enhancement, mission/increment planning, on-orbit EVA operations, hardware processing, EVA requirements, safety and mission assurance, as well as numerous quality programs and training events for astronauts. KBR’s team also completes design, development and modifications to critical EVA flight and training hardware and ground support equipment.
NASA spacewalks are an icon of human space exploration. Today, they are performed outside of the ISS for reasons ranging from repairs, upgrades, or science experiments. The ESOC program and its experts are responsible for enhancing the opportunities of the space community and for making EVAs possible.
Project Highlights
The ESOC team supports approximately eight EVAs annually, which includes sustaining engineering for 60 ground and on-orbit events.
Provides 1,000 EVA flight components to the ISS each year.
Supports more than 800 training events per year, including 160 suited runs in the NASA Sonny Carter Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL).
Annually, the team processes and refurbishes approximately 500 space suits and related components, along with 38,000 EVA tools and crew aides.
Manages an inventory comprised of more than 60,000 parts and three million units.
