The State House is the oldest state capitol still in continuous legislative use and is the only state house to have ever served as the nation's capitol. This historic building renovation project included the complete replacement of the existing HVAC system and installation of new plumbing systems. Work involved replacement of air handlers, ductwork, fancoil units, and VAV with DDC controls. Reconstruction of architectural elements, including patching of historic plaster, millwork and new ceiling systems was also required. 

RME served as a subcontractor providing temporary protection of historic artwork and features, demolition of plastered and masonry walls, demolition of plastered ceilings, installation of new utility chases, gypsum walls, acoustical ceiling systems and plaster patch repairs. 

Challenges of this project involved working in an historic building, coordination with the general contractor, other subcontractors and the owner. The statehouse was constructed using materials and methods which are no longer used in typical commercial construction. Our crews were required to stage and perform activities that were very unique to this project.
