Scope Of Work
T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) provided architectural concepts and engineering input for a new bicycle-pedestrian bridge for the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk Project in Glendale, California.
The proposed Riverwalk provide approximately one mile of trails for bicyclists and pedestrians, including parks, rest areas, river overlooks, an equestrian facility, interpretive signage, public art, and the pedestrian bridge connecting the Riverwalk to Griffith Park and a pedestrian bridge connecting to North Atwater.
In the initial phases of the project, TYLI presented 15 bridge designs over a six-month period. Public comments received during community workshops led to a preferred bridge type. During the next phases of the project, TYLI complete the preliminary and final designs for the riverwalk’s new “Garden Bridge.”
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
Designs varied from multi-span to single-span bridges and from traditional to contemporary in style.
Key criteria include the number and location of the piers due to impacts on river flow and operations.
Designs conform to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ regulatory guidelines and permitting agency requirements.
TYLI’s design priorities include providing users with an exceptional river-crossing experience.
