Scope Of Work

When North Coast Seafoods decided to expand its existing refrigerated seafood processing facility in New Bedford by 30,000 sq feet they chose the services of Ocean Builders Inc as their construction manager. With their understanding of the stringent FDA construction regulations as well as their ability to provide the coordinated and cost effective construction program needed to complete this multi-million dollar facility it was an easy choice. Possessing a solid reputation for supervision, construction coordination, management flexibility, and a keen ability to provide full construction services with little disruption to North Coast production, Ocean Builders Inc began construction efforts in late summer 2016.

Along with Ocean Builders is the construction oversight engineering firm Rivermoor Engineering of Scituate Ma principal Brian Jones with many years of experience in all phases of refrigeration, food processing, and manufacturing construction brings his skilled team to design the structure and over see the project.

An aggressive schedule complicates the construction process requiring the new addition services to be tied to the existing plant without periods of plant shut downs or other services outages. These efforts are accomplished with a lot of planning and coordination with the North Coast New Bedford GM  Bruce Fontes, construction superintendent Phil Bastianelli and the rest of the team.

This fully refrigerated facility will house a modern employee break room and facilities, two modern seafood processing lines each over 80 feet in length specializing in the conveyor seafood processing, two 2400 sf flash freezers capable of freezing product in 24 hrs to minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit along with raw product refrigeration units. New shipping and receiving  docks will allow product to enter at one end of the facility be processed and exit the other end to market  more than doubling the plant production and output. Several other self contained systems  complement the operations such as dry goods and cool storage capabilities.

Overall, the modernized seafood processing facility is a structural steel, refrigeration panel, 22′ clear height, rubber roof complex over 300′ long and housing some 15 refrigeration units to run a 24/7 operation. Construction is scheduled for completion in spring of ’17
