Scope Of Work
The historic Holland City Hall has served as the government seat of the Holland community since its dedication in 1911. This comprehensive rehabilitation and addition project provided badly needed office space, a new training and development center and state-of-the-art council chambers.
The project was $1.2 million over budget at the bid opening. Christman, as the low bidder, was asked to provide value engineering and scope modification suggestions in order to fit the project into the City’s budget. Project design and procurement initiatives were taken to reduce the price without sacrificing any of the old or new historic details.
The most challenging aspect of this project was the complete demolition of the wood joist structure and its replacement with steel joists and concrete floors. Careful phasing and extensive shoring and bracing were required while the old beams were removed and replaced. Due to their size, the new steel beams had to be fed in through the windows in order to be installed.
