Scope Of Work
Kohl Wholesale wanted to build a new food service distribution center for their Midwest network and needed a design-build team with significant logistics and facility planning expertise in order to help them construct a plant that could be incorporated into their distribution system, which has over 10,000 stock keeping units (SKU).
Food Tech was selected thanks to their advanced material handling design and inventory management systems know-how. Food Tech began the project by performing facility sizing as well as master site planning at the 40-acre site in Quincy, IL. The detailed architectural design and engineering services provided by Food Tech helped ensure a seamless permitting and contractor bidding process.
The completed 150,000-square-foot facility features highly efficient storage rack design engineering, such as vertical hydraulic dock levelers, in addition to structural racks slotted for fast, medium, and slow movers. The project also involved significant cold storage construction, including a cost-effective steel frame structure with insulated metal panel walls and a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roof. The new state-of-the-art distribution center helps Kohl Wholesale satisfy increasing sales growth while continuing to provide their customers high-level service and competitive prices.
