Scope Of Work
The Cain Library project involved the construction of a 140,000 Sf, five-story addition with connections to the existing library on levels 1, 2, 3, and 4. The new library addition is a unique building in appearance with the roof structure sloping at 14 degrees and the north curtain wall having a cant of eight degrees inward. The curtain wall is equipped with blue and white interactive lighting that is activated when a given area is occupied. The 5th floor is another area offering an eye-catching appearance with its high ceilings, pendent lighting, wood panel walls and glass clearstory. This floor also hosts a piano lounge, group study, special collections area, and staff offices. More than doubling the size of the structure, this project provides expanded study areas, computer labs, book shelving, an events center/gallery, a multicultural reading room, state-of-the-art archival preservation areas, and group study rooms, with a courtyard, patio, and other outdoor spaces. The new library addition is equipped with state of the art audio/visual equipment and offers a relaxed yet highly functional environment for students to excel in their studies.
