Amoroso Construction constructed the groundbreaking Phase 1A renovation of Earvin "Magic" Johnson Park in the community of Willowbrook in South Los Angeles, the largest park-improvement investment in Los Angeles County history.

The first of multiple phases in the master plan to update the park, this phase encompasses a new 19,801 SF event center with a LEED Gold Certification, surface parking lots, children's play areas and splash pad, picnic and seating areas, an exercise course, pedestrian walkways, planting and irrigation, lake improvements, stormwater treatment, utilities, and related improvements.

The LEED/SITES-designated event center incorporates solar panels to self-sustain, contains a large, multi-purpose space that splits into three rooms, each available for the public to hold private events, and will host afterschool arts programs for the community. The surrounding park will now have a lawn for weddings, a splash pad, playground, barbeque grills, and exercise equipment.

The civil portion of the project included building a pump station that connects to the county's storm-water system. Water flows from the pump station through a treatment plant before being pumped into the lake or used to irrigate the park's landscape. Additionally, the boundary of the lake was expanded and aquatic plants were added around the edges. The landscape features native plants, which lowers the need for upkeep and enhances the site's sustainability.
