Scope Of Work
The East Contra Costa Bart Extension Project (eBART) connects the existing Bay Point BART Station to Antioch, CA along a 10-mile stretch of new trackwork, stations and signaling work. The completed system utilizes eight new diesel multiple units (DMU's) along the new corridor. This new system is unlike the existing BART system in which the new trains are diesel in lieu of electric.
To complete this project, a Joint Venture was created including Stacy & Witbeck, Amoroso and Modern Railway Systems (SAM JV). Together, the team completed all of the track work, train signaling communications and new station work. The project also involves the completion of the existing Maintenance Facility with a train wash, fueling station, bridge cranes and a control room for the new extension. The SAM JV team also built a transfer platform east of the Pittsburg/Bay Point station where riders can transition between the electric BART train and the new DMU system and allows passengers to reach new BART Stations in the City of Pittsburg and the City of Antioch.
The SAM JV performed all of the ballasted track work including all of the systemwide elements for the site work, utilities, signaling and communication design as well as supply of carborne Automatic Train Protection (ATP) packages for BART's vehicle supplier, Stadler, for installation on the DMU's which were being fabricated in Switzerland. Amoroso managed the new station work consisting of structural concrete, steel roof structures, mechanical systems and architectural station finishes.
