Our Story

ince its founding in 1849 by coppersmith John Nicholson, our firm has grown from a small roofing and waterproofing concern to a modern company with sophisticated restoration contracting capability. Our firm successfully meets the needs of building owners and architects for craftmanship in all types of exterior repair and restoration work, including roofing, waterproofing, masonry and concrete restoration, and sheet metal fabrication for both historic and comtemporary structures.

ike the fine landmark buildings that we restore, our firm embodies many of the same old world traditions and values that set us apart from others in the restoration field – a care for the craft, attention to detail, and a vast body of experience on which to draw.

Our clients have been among the most recognized names in New York City – Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York Stock Exchange, General Motors, Morgan Guaranty, New York Life Insurance, New York Hospital, New York Yacht Club, the Cooper Union and New York City Hall. Each year, more than half of our business comes from repeat clients who recognize and value the quality and high standards of our work.

Our firm is also unique in that all work within our areas of specialization is executed by our own regularly employed craftsmen. We continue with this tradition to maintain the highest level of quality control.

As a full-service company, we offer clients total management of a project from inspection, budget preparation, and bids to performance of all work and coordination of relevant trades. We have architects and engineers on staff whose knowledge of building structure, facades, and materials adds to our understanding of a client's problem, enabling us to respond to their needs quickly and efficiently. To complement this professional expertise, we employ experienced craftsmen – many of whom have been with the company for more than thirty years. These valued workmen bring insights that can only be developed through a lifetime on the job.
