Scope Of Work
Description: Masonry restoration and roofing project
Types of work: Stone setting, brickwork, copperwork, flat roofing, carpentry
Details: Nicholson & Galloway completed a one million dollar exterior restoration of this residence located on the campus of Columbia University in upper Manhattan. All work of the project had to be completed over the course of ten weeks, so that the building could be re-occupied in time for the fall semester.
The coping stones, which weigh 600 lbs. each, were lifted off of the building by crane and stored on the property. 300 linear feet of parapet wall (5 bricks thick) was demolished down to the roof level and rebuilt. 1,000 square feet of existing quarry tile roof system was removed and replaced with 2' x 2' x 2" thick concrete roof pavers. The 800 square feet of penthouse roofs were replaced with either a standing seam copper roof system or a flat-lock copper roof system. One penthouse roof was re-framed and re-sheathed before the new roof was installed.
This beautiful New York City Landmark project was completed by Labor Day as required, and on budget, and as always, all work was supervised and performed by Nicholson & Galloway’s own personnel.
