Details: Nicholson & Galloway was hired in 2006 as a general restoration contractor by the owners of 200 West to perform a full exterior façade restoration. This Cass Gilbert NYC Landmark was plagued with failing terra cotta and corroding structural steel backup. N&G completely removed the existing 8’ tall x 210 linear feet terra cotta cornice and replaced it with new structural steel and new Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) units. New GFRC cornice was capped with 1,100 square feet of copper standing seam roofing. Three corners of building were reconstructed with new terra cotta brick units and reinforced steel. Approximately 400 pieces of failed terra cotta were replaced with new matching cast stone units. Six terra cotta balconies were completely dismantled and rebuilt with new and salvaged material. Twenty cast iron balconies were completely stripped of lead paint and repainted. 175 pieces of cast iron were replaced and or repaired. 235 historic wood window units were completely restored and repainted. Project was completed in 2007 and won the NYC Lucy G. Moses Landmarks Award.
