Scope Of Work
Description: Facade Cleaning Project
Types of work: Stone cleaning
Details: Nicholson & Galloway was hired in the summer of 2000 to perform a two year exterior cleaning of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Located in lower Manhattan and built in 1924, this massive stone edifice was constructed with a mixture of limestone and sandstone blocks. There are over three hundred thousand square feet of exterior stone on this building.
The cleaning program was complicated by the mixture of limestone and sandstone on the building. Limestone can be cleaned with water-mist methods alone, however, sandstone requires chemical or abrasive cleaning methods. For this reason, Nicholson & Galloway used a custom cleaning program of water-misting, micro-abrasive blasting and limited chemical application. When performed together these three procedures resulted in a beautifully clean facade.
To accommodate the customer's aggressive five month schedule, Nicholson & Galloway performed the work from seven swing-stage scaffolds and two man-lifts during day, night and weekend shifts.
As always, all work was supervised and performed by Nicholson & Galloway's own personnel.
