Scope Of Work
The University of South Florida broke ground in January 2004 on two new buildings in its research park that added more than 230,000 square feet for laboratories, offices for corporate partners, an expanded 60,000 square foot business incubator, and the Center for Biological Defense. This $40-million project was the first phase of USF’s plan to develop its 87-acre research park into a hub for biotechnology, life sciences research, and entrepreneurship.
BCH Mechanical was selected by Skanska USA to install the mechanical system.
The four-story Interdisciplinary Building includes a dedicated central energy plant with three (3) 400-ton water-cooled chillers. The penthouse holds five (5) custom chilled-water air-handlers, two (2) heating hot- water boilers, and a 105,000 CFM fume exhaust system fed by both galvanized and stainless steel, welded exhaust duct. The Multi-Tenant Office Building includes three 105-ton packaged rooftop units, which feed a three-story speculative office space.
The Center for Biological Defense was the first major tenant build-out in the Interdisciplinary Research Building. This project included fume exhaust air-valves and ductwork for handling potentially hazardous exhaust.
