When the staff here at Engineering Express discovered that we would be working on a structure within steps of the White House (The Warner Building in Washington, DC), we were all very excited. The Warner is a historical landmark located on Pennsylvania Avenue, overlooking Freedom Plaza just a quarter mile from the White House. The Warner has garnered accolades from local and international architects and critics, and has won numerous awards from various design and historic organizations. The building offers panoramic views of Pennsylvania Avenue, Freedom Plaza, the Post Office Pavilion, the Washington Monument, and The White House via its rooftop promenade.

Working in partnership with www.retractableawnings.com, our expert staff was called upon to design a beautiful retractable canopy system for a lounge area located in the newly renovated rooftop terrace, equipped with a full bar and fireplace. Our team imagined the dignitaries and socialites having a drink underneath this gorgeous canopy as they overlooked Washington, DC and all of its beautiful landmarks stretched as far as the eye can see. Our office was passionate about the contemporary and elegant structure and successfully analyzed the loading wind and snow loading scenarios that would be placed upon the product during a storm event. Through numerous iterations and rational analysis, our staff and the rooftop terrace’s design team were finally able to have the project permitted and approved by the Engineer of Record.
