Scope Of Work
The Vermont Agency of Transportation selected Schultz Construction to perform a complete replacement of the deteriorated Route 30 bridge over a railroad using accelerated bridge construction methods. Schultz Construction delivered the project to the State of Vermont ahead of the schedule. The work was to be completed within a 28-day shutdown period and with Schultz completing ahead of schedule the impact to local businesses, homeowners and travel delays for the public were minimized. The new replacement bridge was founded on driven H-piles with steel sheet pile driven to protect the active railroad facility. The new bridge structure consisted of precast concrete components for both the abutments and bridge deck which consisted of New England Extreme Tee (NEXT) beams. Also, 1,100 lineal foot of railroad track was lowered to accommodate double stacked rail cars. The railroad track was lowered during short term daily shutdowns to mitigate impacts to the active railroad facility over a fourteen-day shutdown period.
