Scope Of Work

Boyd Jones partnered with St. Matthew Catholic Church to construct a new, 850-seat church located on the site of the parish’s existing school. The two-story, 35,000-SF facility includes a chapel, fellowship hall, full kitchen, and parish offices for one of the newest Catholic parishes in the city. This project represents the culmination of 25 years of dreaming and planning by the parishioners and leaders of St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish. Accordingly, the resulting worship facility features high-skill craftsmanship, exquisite finishes, and carefully planned details representative of the Catholic faith.

Insulated concrete forms (ICF) were utilized for the basement and first-level exterior walls of the new church, giving the structure increased energy efficiency and added resilience against extreme temperatures and weather events. The church’s use of ICF places it among a growing number of parishes throughout the Catholic faith that are rethinking their environmental impact through the use of innovative construction methods and renewable energy, among other approaches. 

Prominent features include a curtain wall of frameless architectural resin panels suspended from a semicircular glulam beam enclosure that highlights the baptismal font; a series of 17-foot-tall fiberglass columns in the nave that were painted by hand to resemble natural marble; transverse glulam beams and purlins over exposed tongue and groove decking that constitute the ceiling of the nave; stained glass windows throughout; and custom-made stations of the cross.
