Scope Of Work

Dedicated in May 2016, the new Amos House Community Center is located on Amos House's existing property on Pine Street in Providence. This steel-framed four-level, 29,000-square-foot structure includes a new soup kitchen with a larger dining hall, classrooms, community rooms, training centers and consolidated staff offices. A full-scale carpentry shop and a classroom for the culinary program replaced the existing offsite locations.  The focus of the Lower Level is the Amos Carpentry Training program, providing office space, storage, resource area, and most importantly, a workshop space for its students to have hands-on education and learn their craft. The Main Level (first floor) provides Amos House's Dining Hall which has grown from serving 100 meals daily 30 years ago to serving over 400 meals a day, surpassing 150,000 meals a year. The expanded Dining Hall will increase Amos House's capacity to serve the community wholesome meals by allowing it to seat 20% more guest at a time, greatly reducing lines and the amount of time that guests must wait. Also located on the first floor is the Social Services Suite which is an important component of the essential support Amos House provides to its many guests each year.

The new dedicated space with a waiting/reception area and five private offices provides a confidential setting for guests who come to Amos House for very personal needs and supplies social workers to have at hand all the resources they need to provide the best services possible. The second floor focuses on a diverse range of education programs and Amos House’s entrepreneurial businesses. Dedicated classroom space houses the Amos Culinary Education program and Amos House Literacy Program, including a dedicated computer resource lab. The Community Room will be the center of Amos House's Day Programs and Social Services group sessions. The Community Room provides seating for 40, an appropriate space to accommodate all those who attend important programs focused on supporting client's commitments to substance-free lives, keep their housing in the Amos House programs, and stay on track to a new future. The offices of the Amos House Businesses, including Amos House Works, More Than a Meal, and the Friendship Cafe, will also be housed on the Second Floor. The third floor provides a centralized Administrative office for the Accounting, Business, and Development Departments, consolidating functions into a centralized area and freeing space in other buildings so that staff can be housed where their programs are located.
