Scope Of Work
After 112 years of serving Takoma Park, the not-for-profit Washington Adventist Hospital relocated and opened a state-of-the-art medical campus in Silver Spring, MD in August of 2019. The new facility doubles capacity of the previous facility, totaling over 472,0000 square feet, serving over 180 patients in private rooms. The new campus is equipped with advanced technology and services, larger operating rooms, and efficient mechanical and electrical systems - needed to provide uninterrupted power, steam, and chilled water to the entire campus.
Kimball was the constructor of the Central Utility Plant's core and shell, on behalf of Edison Energy. The building is one story above grade and one cellar level grade, exposed on one side. The project included earthwork, foundations, site work, concrete foundations and equipment pads, structural steel erection, louver bays and overhead doors, and architectural finishes. The building was tied into the hospital and covered in a brick veneer finish.
For equipment installation and removal, a roofing system with roof hatches was required so KCC's project team could coordinate the mechanical, electrical, and controls contractors as they installed equipment into the newly constructed building. KCC received recognition from Edison Energy for the team's ability to work together and overcome all project challenges.
