Scope Of Work

Augusta Health is a community hospital located in Fisherville, Virginia that serves approximately 57,000 emergency visits a year to the surrounding communities. With the existing Emergency Department (ED) inadequate to meet the current demand, DPR negotiated and was awarded the GMP contract to construct a new addition and to renovate the existing ED.

The project, designed by AECOM, includes the complete renovation of the existing 17,500-sq.-ft. ED and construction of a 16,500-sq.-ft. addition to the ED, with an additional 16,500-sq.-ft. shell space above. This doubles the size of the current ED and will provide a total of 48 treatment rooms that include specialized treatment rooms for trauma and resuscitation, behavioral health, bariatrics, airborne infection control and examination rooms. The project also includes the addition of three nurse stations, staff lounges and locker rooms, and several other administrative and service spaces to provide employees with an efficient layout to help facilitate seeing patients.

The DPR project team was brought on to the project during the development stage of design to help review site logistics and to add valuable design input and value engineering. The project required phase planning for the renovation work, which is currently planned to be completed in four phases, while the rest of the existing ED space stays open and treating patients.

Weekly meetings with the owner and owner’s representative and bi-weekly meetings with the design team allowed the project team to create a collaborative approach with the owner and design team, addressing work that impacts the Emergency Department well in advance and communicating to all parties decisions that are needed to stay on schedule and budget.
