Scope Of Work

Overview

DiGiorgio Associates Inc. and Monitor Builders Inc., a LiRo Group company, teamed with LRGHealthcare in Laconia, New Hampshire, on the design and construction of a new 101,000 sf, six-story patient tower, performing architecture, engineering and construction management services. This facility was a major component of new work within a $140 million U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development loan for LRGHealthcare—New England’s largest-ever HUD project.

About the Project

Design elements include:

A new lobby and patient registration area with a connection to the on-campus medical office building.

A new 20-bed elder care unit, medical/surgical unit and 15-bed Intensive Care Unit with an adjacent five-bed progressive care unit on the upper floors.

Converting all other multi-bed rooms to single-bed rooms (DAI/ MBI converted 20 rooms in 2014).

New navigation route throughout the Laconia campus to minimize exposure to the elements.

LiRo connected the hospital to the Medical Office Building and updated the hospital’s complete electrical system, adding four 10,000 KVA transformers.

Project Challenges & Solutions

Shutting down the hospital’s main entrance to construct the Patient Tower was a challenge, as well as changing over the electrical systems. By planning for these in advance, they were able to be completed successfully.

Outcome

LiRo’s design addresses Lakes Region General Hospital aging infrastructure system and increases the hospital’s patient volume capacity. It also created a more efficient environment for all aspects of LRGH’s healthcare delivery system. In addition, the design decreases staff costs and improves physician and nurse recruitment. This project was completed on time and under budget. Construction duration was 24 months.
