Scope Of Work
The Norton Healthcare downtown campus in Louisville, Ky., was expanding to include the Norton Cancer Institute Radiation Center, a dedicated facility for the treatment of pediatric and adult cancers with the latest advances in technology. TP Mechanical was awarded the HVAC and Plumbing contracts, which included routing piping from existing mechanical rooms in other Norton medical buildings.
The main campus is about 1.1 acres away from the existing buildings, and the mechanical project included routing from a storage closet in the middle of the hospital's OR department to the new facility through a tunnel under the street. The steam and chilled water (both 4" and 12") was routed from a central plant located two city blocks away. The TP Mechanical team utilized its experience and knowledge to ensure the systems were connected effectively and with an eye toward future additions. The building's design allows for a two-story expansion.
The result is a medical campus utilizing shared resources, while establishing a standalone comprehensive center offering treatments for cancer patients in one location.
