Scope Of Work

The Wesley Glenn Wellness & Therapy addition began in the early spring of 2011, taking more than 14,000 man hours to complete by May of 2012. The Wesley Glen project was a building addition to an existing wellness center in a retirement village associated with Methodist Eldercare. The retirement facility had been using a bus to transport its residents across town to their sister facility for wellness and therapy and decided to add the center to their Clintonville location. 

The building’s design included a well-equipped workout room, locker rooms and a state of the art HydroWorx Aquatic Treadmill Pool. The HydroWorx Pool is very impressive and includes an underwater treadmill, moveable floor for safe access with ladders and computerized underwater cameras for staff observation. The new facility also contains areas where residents can meet with healthcare personnel in a more relaxed setting. Other features include a heated lap pool, juice bar, multi-purpose room, health clinic, therapy kitchen, conference room and space for physical therapy.

On the surface, the Wesley Glen project seemed to be a simple building addition that included a small amount of HVAC equipment, a basic fire protection system and a few plumbing fixtures. The project included many changes to the existing plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems as well. Once we started to coordinate the schedule of this project, our BIM software discovered design and sizing issues, which had been overlooked in the design phase. By working with the project engineer, we were able to correct these issues and reduce the timeline of the schedule.

The changes included the replacement and upsizing of the HVAC system, pumps, boilers, chiller and cooling tower. The system included Pool Pak units that controlled the quality of the air for the pool areas; along with air-to-air heat exchangers to comply with LEED requirements for the building. The domestic hot water system was also upsized with new boilers, storage tanks and reticulating pumps. At completion, both systems would supply services for the wellness center and the rest of the campus.
