Our Story
In 1972 Kathyrine Winship started Winship Stake and Lath from nothing. She was a single mother, working for her brother Joe Valk in his wood specialty business. She saw the potential for a mill focused on stakes and lath for the surveying and construction industry. She was loaned $10,000 by Collin Lovesee owner of Boyd, Lovesee Lumber, now Champion Lumber.
As California grew, Winship Stake and Lath prospered. Our stakes were up and down Southern California’s construction projects. Kathyrine was committed to a superior product and superior service.
Over the years the people of Winship Stake and Lath have become family. Whether Pablo Diaz and Bailon Abraham in the mill or Arnoldo on the truck we have stuck together and with our customers through the good days and bad of the California economy.
Sadly, we have lost our fearless leader, but onward we go. Lisa Winship Hankin, Kathyrine’s daughter who was raised in that mill, carries on the commitment to a superior product and exceptional service. Kristi will help you on the phone and just might load the truck for you if the guys are busy. The California economy is looking up and so are we.
Our business is to you get your job done.
