Scope Of Work
Beers Construction Co. selected R.W. Allen as Construction Manager to partner with Bovis, Inc., Program Manager, to build the Children's Hospital of Georgia facility. The state-of-the-art facility was the recipient of a design award from Modern Healthcare Magazine and the American Institute of Architect’s Academy of Architecture for Health.
The Children's Hospital of Georgia consists of a five-story, concrete frame building that spans 250,000 square feet and fits 149 beds. The facility includes 120-seat conference center on the first floor, 10 pre-operative rooms, nine Phase I recovery bays, and one Phase I recovery isolation room; six operating rooms, an orthopedic/neurosurgery room, pharmacy, blood gas lab and pathology lab, and two endoscopy special procedure rooms.
The endeavor presented numerous challenges for the project team due to its proximity (within 10 feet) to an adjacent structure that was occupied. In addition, RWA was asked to phase the project in order for the 2nd and 3rd floors to be occupied prior to completion of the remainder of the building. This was accomplished through exceptional planning and careful anticipation of the “unforeseen” by the project administrator and, more importantly, the project superintendent.
