Scope Of Work

With drought relentlessly hammering the Southwest, water levels at Nevada’s Lake Mead have continued to drop significantly in recent years. Located 20 miles southeast of Las Vegas, this reservoir created by the Hoover Dam provides water for users in Nevada, Southern California, Arizona, and Mexico. The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) provides water from Lake Mead to more than 2 million of those users, but to do this SNWA has had to modify its delivery of water with a series of projects, the latest being the Lake Mead Intake No. 3 Low Lake Level Pumping Station. SNWA initiated plans for this L3PS Project as a means of providing water from its new Intake No. 3 at the bottom of Lake Mead to consumers in the Las Vegas area.

With preliminary plans in hand, SNWA contracted with Barnard for Pre-construction Services in May 2015 bringing Barnard onto a team working to complete the design of an efficient, cost effective, high quality access shaft, forebay cavern and 34 deep well shafts to be equipped with submersible pumps that will feed a new pumping station. Design of the underground works and constructability review began immediately upon Notice to Proceed. A construction contract for these underground works was awarded to Barnard in September 2015; work began immediately. Through an additional construction contract, Barnard began work on the pump station in January 2017.
