Our Story

Summit Design and Engineering Services was originally founded in 1997 under the name of Callemyn-Parker, Inc., when current President Jim Parker, PE, PLS, and land surveyor, Alois Callemyn combined their resources. Working as Callemyn-Parker until 2001, the Sear-Brown Group, Inc. took notice of the engineering and surveying firm and purchased it. In early 2004, Stantec acquired Sear-Brown, and a few months later, Mr. Parker along with Edmund Purcell, PLS, Sherry Jones, Kevin O'Dell, PE and William McCarthy, PLS, purchased and formed what is now Summit.

Operating as Summit since 2004 and starting off with surveying and civil engineering as our core disciplines, we have continued to expand our disciplines to broaden our services to clients. Summit has adapted to provide construction engineering and inspection, construction materials testing, Special Inspections, construction management, geotechnical engineering, infrastructure engineering, land development, architecture, structural engineering, industrial coatings inspection, survey grade verification and asset management. By offering a full list of services to our clients, we can be involved in a project from beginning to end which decreases the reliance on other firms to perform services.

Summit has also expanded geographically from one office in Hillsborough to branch offices in Raleigh, Indian Trail, Fayetteville, Pittsboro, Asheville in North Carolina. There are also Virginia offices located in Richmond, Franklin and South Boston. With this expansion we are able to offer our engineering and design expertise to a greater range of clients.

As Summit has grown, we have never lost sight of our original goals and objectives, which Mr. Parker has instilled in everyone since 1997:

Produce incredible results by valuing the client above all else.

Create the highest quality project possible for the lowest possible budget.

Preserve the environment by designing/constructing projects with ecological efficiency.

Keep all employees, project members, and civilians safe on job sites.

Hire the most qualified professionals to provide the highest quality projects.

Paired with our vast service offerings, these goals set Summit apart as a design and engineering firm. Maintaining these goals is the driving force behind the growth we have already experienced, as well as the growth we strive to achieve.
