Scope Of Work

The 250 Bryant Street project was a design/build tenant improvement project for a mobile app company’s new headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. The project included 72,000 square feet of space spread over three office floors and the roof. CEI’s scope of work included both low voltage and electrical systems, including power, lighting and lighting control, fire alarm, emergency responder radio coverage system (ERRCS), distributed antenna system (DAS), telecom, security cabling and audio-visual cabling.

The 6,000 square-foot roof deck has a raised-floor concrete paver system featuring in-paver uplights, a shade trellis with downlighting, food service islands with a bar and under-counter strip lighting, wood slat walls with LED accent lighting, overhead string lights, custom landscaped planters with stake lighting, a fire pit and electric heaters. A Lutron lighting control and dimming system controls the lighting system. On the first floor, the 5,000 square-foot fitness center has space for free weights, machine weights, cardio machines, a full spinning studio and a yoga studio. All fitness areas have programmable dimmable lighting.

Unique challenges

One consistent design feature throughout the Design/Build project was floating wood slat ceilings (can be seen in conference rooms, fitness area, and hallways). CEI developed a lighting design and worked closely with the ceiling installer to ensure each fixture was installed flush with the bottom of the wood ceiling slats and fit perfectly in the wood slats spacing. Each linear lighting fixture took the place of one wood slat.

This project moved quickly, with both design and build happening in just seven months. Because the high-profile tenant was moving from its old location into 250 Bryant Street, there were no time extensions, and Cupertino Electric had to adapt and improve processes to meet the deadline.
