Scope Of Work
Barcelona Wine Bar, a group of restaurants spread across the northeast, wanted to open up a location on Beacon St. in Brookline, so the owners contacted Construction Coordinators, Inc. (CCI) to transform the space into a functioning tapas and wine restaurant.
The job appeared easy enough, until CCI realized that Beacon St. as a whole is a historical landmark, so that changes made to any building on the street must be approved by the Brookline Historical Society in order to preserve the historical nature of the street. Many of the changes to the restaurant were in keeping with the historical aspect of the location: for example, CCI used reclaimed wood (wood that has been used in previous projects) throughout the project to emphasize the age of the area. However, the historical restrictions also included the main focus of the project: the repair of a sagging concrete façade above the entrance. To ensure that nothing was altered, the Brookline Historical Society decided that the façade should be taken down piece by piece, catalogued, restored, and then put back up in exactly the same place. This process meant that CCI couldn’t simply replace any damaged concrete, but instead had to restore it, which made the renovations more difficult.
Despite the restrictions, CCI created a rustic and bustling wine bar that maintains the historical appearance of Beacon St., serving hundreds of thirsty patrons each night.
