Scope Of Work
Spire was contracted to design and install a theatrical and architectural lighting system at Yorkshire United Methodist Church. In early meetings with the church’s renovation committee, it became clear that the design would need to preserve the traditional architectural style of the sanctuary and also achieve a modern feel throughout the space with lighting. The service structure was going to be set up to accommodate a traditional service and a contemporary service. The only way to more effectively light the room was to remove all of the existing fixtures in the sanctuary and to upgrade to an LED recessed can design to provide directional light over the pews and a theatrical lighting system to evenly light the platform. Further accent lighting was added to the design behind the Cross and the cornice above the cross to highlight the traditional architecture.
The system uses a number of RGB LED fixtures including about 200 feet of custom LED strip lighting that was designed and built by us. The entertainment and architectural lighting industry has failed to develop a flicker-free, smooth dimming curve, reasonably priced LED dimmer. To meet the design requirements, we had to turn to a custom design, made in house, and controllable via DMX, dimmer. Another component of the installation was the implementation of a theatrical lighting console able to easily control the seasonal dramatic productions. We turned to an Interactive Technologies Cueserver to control the architectural lighting and placed wall stations around the room for simplistic control of the lighting system.
