Arrowhead was awarded a $502K fixed price design-build contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District for construction / installation of a new disinfection system and performed multiple renovations at the municipal Water Treatment Plant (WTP) serving Ft. Riley, KS. The WTP, which is operated by the Directorate of Public Works (DPW), receives and treats raw water from eight groundwater pumping wells (Forsyth Well Pumps). It is the source of potable water for the entire Ft. Riley Post. The plant is designed for a maximum capacity of 10,000,000 gallons per day.
Key features of the work included: demolition operations: site work; installation of underground chemical transmission pipelines and conduit; installation of process equipment, instrumentation, and panels; installation and operation of the temporary chemical feed system while permanent system was undergoing fabrication; installation of the bulk storage tanks; metal fabrications; structural concrete (equipment pads and secondary containment berms) and flatwork; epoxy floor coating; painting. In addition, Frontier personnel implemented all startup and monitoring procedures for phasing in the new sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) feed system. Specific tasks included:
Calibration and adjustment of the NaOCl metering pumps
Pressure testing of the new bulk storage tanks and transmission piping
Monitoring of effluent chlorine levels and residual in the distribution system
PLC programming
Test out the new electrical systems
Calibration of the new instrumentation and monitoring devices
Operational adjustments as necessary
Modification of operational testing and startup procedures.
