Scope Of Work
rand* construction completed the two-story restaurant build-out of Mango Tree in DC’s new City Center simultaneously with several other construction projects occurring in the new development. Restauranteur Richard Sandoval brought the first U.S. location of Mango Tree to City Center after testing the upscale Thai concept in London and Bangkok and had high expectations for the finished product. Several custom, high-end finishes were selected to compliment the unique design of the space.
The restaurant has two stories with a new elevator built out for access to the second floor. The first floor houses the main bar with bar seating and a small lounge area surrounding the elevator. A concrete hexagonal slab cut above the main bar visibly touches the second floor with a large hanging glass structure which displays upscale bottles and a large, custom lighting sculpture. Imported tile and wood flooring compliment the owner-selected finishes. Mango Tree also features a unique unisex restroom concept with several stalls and a large clawfoot bathtub used as a double large sink. This project presented several technical challenges to the project team, including significant budget pressures to reduce the cost of work, the requirement for high-end cooking infrastructure, restricted work hours, and a remotely located designer and client. rand* persevered with a daily display of technical skill and on-site problem solving, ultimately achieving all goals for the new restaurant.
