Maine Mountainside Timber Frame Barn

Project Information

Project Location:
Freeport, ME
Status:
Completed
Structure Type:
Residential Building

Scope Of Work

This Maine mountainside timber frame barn was designed to accommodate the owner’s passion for year round outdoor adventures in a scenic location surrounded by hills and lakes.  The hand crafted Douglas fir timber frame barn, with authentic mortise and tenon joinery, was sheathed with native eastern white pine tongue and groove boards.  Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) were affixed over the pine sheathing on the roof and wall areas to provide insulation for the in-floor radiant heat system installed throughout the concrete floor.  One end of the post and beam barn has two 10’ overhead doors for ample access to the owner’s boats, motorcycles, four-wheel vehicles and snowmobiles.  The front of the timber frame barn showcases a custom-built motorized barn door which rises straight up into the gable area.
