Scope Of Work

BLD was a member of a three-company joint venture for this work, which included over $400 million in disaster recovery efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. The majority of St. Bernard Parish was devastated by these hurricanes, including most structures (residential, commercial, government, and industrial facilities) and all public infrastructure (sewer, water, electrical and drainage systems, as well as roads). Efforts included such items as demolition of structures; debris removal; management of landfill operations; and assistance with recovery of critical infrastructure systems such as water, sewer and drainage; emergency rehabilitation and clearing of roadways. Work was performed under extremely difficult environmental conditions due to the location being in a disaster area. In most cases, basic services and supplies (food, water, power, fuel, etc.) could not be obtained in the project area and had to be procured and transported in from outside the area. Housing for staff often had to be setup on a temporary basis. Numerous stakeholders were involved in the work, including federal, state and local government agencies. BLD managed more than 60 subcontractors from around the U.S. that participated in the recovery due to the lack of local resources (human, equipment, supplies) caused by the widespread disaster.
