Scope Of Work
Project Type: Site Development/Restoration, DOT, Renovations
This two phase project resulted in the complete renovation of airport buildings, utilities, and fluid supply systems at the Fairbanks International Airport, Fairbanks, AK. The scope includes the new construction of a Sand Storage Building and the reconstruction of an existing Hydrant Building that ties into the existing aircraft fuel distribution and aircraft fuel storage systems. Site improvements were also completed as well as the abatement of asbestos and hydraulic fluid.
Phase I included moving operations out of the building into temporary structures. Work included removing asbestos and POL materials and replacing them with non-hazardous materials, demolishing all interior structures, and electrical and mechanical improvements. Reconstruction included underslab water, sewer and oil waste systems, new structural and non-structural framing, and replacing all electrical, generator, communications, dispatch, and radios. The entire mechanical system was replaced.
Phase II included renovations and reconstruction of the remaining areas of the ARFF Building, renovations of the Hydrant Storage Building, and a new Sand Storage Building. The ARFF renovations included completing and tying in all utilities, compaction grouting to cure unstable ground under the existing building, structural steel and non-structural steel framing, new finishes, new siding, EFIs, all new electric, communications, fire alarms, and a new radio tower. ARFF dispatch controls all security throughout the Fairbanks International Airport Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA). Osborne installed all new mechanical, air handlers, HVAC, and fire sprinklers.
Phase II also included the renovation of Fairbanks International Airport’s sophisticated telecommunications systems. Osborne performed the following work under this category:
• Updated the entire Fairbanks International Airport security system, including all doors and gates within the Airport SIDA area
• Prepared the agreement for the radio dispatch equipment and software system installation, which required a high-level of detail in order to define Osborne, Motorola, and ADOT&PF responsibilities and protect ADOT&PF’s warranty
• Rebuilt the entire Airport dispatch center, including: new dispatch consoles, a new radio tower, and a new radio system; these efforts required offsite work and coordination with multiple entities, inducing the DoD, Fairbanks Police and Fire, and other emergency services.
