Scope Of Work

Howell was hired to provide renovation/upgrade construction services to the Hewlett Packard facility in Colorado Springs. Originally scheduled to start in the midst of the global pandemic, the project was delayed, and budget reduced before eventually starting back up in January 2021. The work focused on upgrading the open office area, two conference rooms, and the breakroom. Building access was tightly secured to protect the sensitive work conducted within the space. Access for all Howell and specialty trades workers had to be coordinated with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and StructureTone, the owner’s representative.

Conference spaces were fitted with the latest AV and IT systems and a central breakroom featured high-end millwork and flooring finishes. Because of their size, HP used national contracts to source AV, IT and flooring materials and Howell managed the install of those owner-purchased elements. To install the HPE-sourced AV and IT materials free of clashes with other building systems, multiple coordination meetings were scheduled to ensure a seamless process. In one instance, the hydronic piping for a new CRAC unit in the IT room was intended to be installed adjacent to an existing and operational data center. The Howell team recommended moving the hydronic piping through an existing hallway to eliminate the risk of interrupting sensitive data center operations. The solution added piping costs but eliminated significant risk and provided superior maintenance access.
