Scope Of Work

Conversion of a former retail space into a new outpatient surgery center at East River Plaza in East Harlem. The extensive work entailed building new operating rooms, patient bay areas, nurses’ stations with fully functioning nurse call systems, fire-rated partitions, pre/post-op areas, and new flooring and lighting. Eastman Cooke also performed a major infrastructure upgrade, installing new HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems. To ensure maximum safety for patients and medical staff, new flooring was installed with welds to prevent the spread of infection, and a pass-through window box was installed to handle sterilized material. Crews also built patient lockers in the break room and installed automated doors throughout the facility to facilitate improved access for staff, patients, and visitors.

Building a leading-edge medical facility during a pandemic wasn’t without its challenges, but our experienced team tackled each one successfully. In spite of minor setbacks with material orders, our expert team still obtained all necessary materials to complete the job in a timely manner. During weekly meetings, all scheduling was reviewed in detail, eliminating any additional delays. Continuous communication with our client and project team solidified a close working relationship, which kept the project running seamlessly. Eastman Cooke also collaborated with the design team to create the best solutions when any additional work was required. We expertly navigated challenging logistics and building conditions to successfully perform the infrastructure upgrade.

This dynamic project represents one of many we have worked on, involving the adaptive reuse and conversions of retail, office and warehouse spaces into cutting-edge medical centers. While maintaining every safety standard, Eastman Cooke successfully constructed a leading-edge outpatient surgery center, complete with East River views. Our knowledge of DOH inspections ensured that all paperwork went smoothly.
