Scope Of Work

The replacement of the Tefft Hill Bridge No. 592 for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation was accomplished using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC), including prefabricated concrete arches to carry the existing I-95 north and south over the Tefft Hill Trail. The contract specifications called for the Southbound Bridge Superstructure to be removed in three phases in order to maintain two lanes of traffic at all times using temporary barrier to delineate the phases. Lynch designed and submitted a value-engineering alternate to complete the bridge removal in two phases, thus reducing cost, accelerating the project schedule, and eliminating a dangerous center-lane work zone. This plan included temporary widening into the center median, was reviewed and approved by RIDOT and the consultant, and was successfully implemented by Lynch. The contract specifications called for the removal of Northbound Bridge on Route I-95 to be performed in a single phase utilizing a detour of Route I-95 to be implemented in a 56-hour period. Lynch successfully completed demolition of the existing superstructure and partial substructure, backfill of the precast culvert and wingwalls, installation of roadway sub-base, pavement, guardrail, and pavement markings, providing full beneficial use of I-95 Northbound almost 24 hours ahead of schedule.
