Scope Of Work
As part of a joint venture with SHW Group, KCI provided comprehensive architectural/engineering services for the design of a new $55 million, 325,000-square-foot multicultural school campus. The project included consolidating the functions of a middle school and a high school into a single building.
Prior to demolition, Bell High School and Lincoln Middle School were inundated with leaky roofs, asbestos-containing materials, ill-equipped science laboratories, limited recreation areas, poor space configurations and virtually no computer infrastructure.
Now connected under one roof, the new facility includes a three-story middle school, a four-story high school, an 800-seat auditorium with a mini-United Nations stage, a two-story multi-purpose building and below grade parking.
A major challenge with this project was maximizing the benefits of shared mechanical systems for both schools under one roof. KCI’s engineers focused on providing efficient and cost effective solutions using innovative HVAC systems throughout the facility. Designers also worked with stakeholders to maximize utilization of the small five-acre site while minimizing impacts to the surrounding community.
